MAYOR SUAT TUFANThe Public asks and the Mayor of Dalyan replies:
Suat Tufan, the mayor of Dalyan Municipality, replies to the questions carefully asked by the public and he pays attention to the problems of Dalyan. We learned in our interview many things and his opinion about the problems, the plans, and for the environment of Dalyan. Question 1: Why is it necessary to “stabilize” roads? The mud and dust we had before have changed colour to red, and Okcular lost much of its Cemetary/Mezarlik in the process. If the long-awaited 2nd stage of our sewage system is coming, why cover existing dirt roads with more earth when it will have to be dug up again for this? Answer: The substructive soil of Dalyan is soft ground and because of this the roads will be filled with the small stones to make a firm base and in the near future the roads will be ready for use. Question 2: Why was Ataturk Bulvari, already paved, completely dug up and re-done, then taken up and re-done, then…taken up and re-done again?! There are many other main roads that need surfacing? Answer: After the paving stones were laid a road roller machine passed by mistake and the stones were broken. The damaged broken stones have been used and not wasted by being laid for the surface in other roads. Question 3: Why were some of the oldest and biggest trees cut down in the centre of town when they are supposedly protected? Answer: Other trees are being planted in new streets in Dalyan. The old trees are being preserved. The oak and pine tree will not be cut down. In September and October more of these species will be planted. Along the riverside areas the trees will be cut back. Question 4: Why is the old eyesore illegal building near the river still there after more than 10 years? Answer: In the riverside boundaries of the Dalyan area some works are being done to make it more beautiful and cleaner. Question 5: Why is the market is being moved out of the centre? There are plenty of shops in Dalyan already, including the new development by Migros. The market is an integral part of town and tourists love it! Answer: Some things like the market are especially moved out of the centre because they create visual pollution and loud noise and small markets it already create a problems so they wait be problem. Question 6: Do you again think to be a candidate? If you think that what are your aims after being a candidate? Answer: I’m now Dalyan Mayor. There is much time before 2009’s election. As we dont know what will happen next we can't predict what will the political situation will bring. Question 7: What are your plans about social and cultural activity for Dalyan? Answer: The festivals have been improved for this year and will be improved also for the next years. Question 8: Why does the municipality give its place to the post office and why will the PTT building be demolished? Answer: One of the damages for Dalyan local council is the PTT (Post Office) because this is effecting the tourism for Dalyan. Because of this the building has to be relocated so there was a meeting with the PTT General Manager and members of parliament. For the relocation of the PTT will be moved to the council building. The couincil building will be as well relacated another area. Thank you to Suat Tufan, Mayor of Dalyan, for his explanations and thoughful replies, we are all now much the wiser. The Dalyan Times
