CARETTA CARETTA SYMPOSIUM Mayor Suat Tufan attended a meeting at the National Caretta Caretta Symposium in Istanbul recently. He asked that the next meeting be held here because Dalyan is one of the well known nesting locations of these endangered sea turtles. With National and International professors and environmentalists meeting in Dalyan it would be both beneficial to the various European countries in attendance as well as promote the area.
BRITISH BICYCLIST TOUR A British bicycle tour group, which sailed from bodrum on the 12th of October, made their first destination on their bicycles to the village of Datça. They traveled through that area and then onto Marmaris, departing from there to Göcek via ship. They were able to visit the Dalyan area on the last day of their bicycle tour and enjoyed the sights of the Dalyan area thoroughly.
The group,which arrived in the morning in Dalyan rode on to Ortaca with their bicycles. They returned to Dalyan to visit the Naciye Tinaztepe Primary School and they spoke with the children in English. Susie Shards, a member of this group, said “Dalyan is a wonderful place to visit. I feel myself lucky to have seen this beautiful city and am especially impressed by the sincerity of the children” they left Dalyan with beautiful memories in their minds and then they were off to Ekincik Bay.
ART EXHIBITION BIG SUCCESS An Exhibition of Local Art was held at the Dalyan Queens Hotel in October in aid of the local school computer appeal. As well as pictures by children from the school, a number of local artists exhibited including, Fiona Macrae, Kaptan June Haimoff, David Ellis, Penny Blackmore, Colin Coventry, Serife, Gillian , and Sandra Tranor Over 200 attended on the night and the next two days. From the sale of art and a raffle for a picture by Penny Blackmore and prizes donated by local shops, over 1000ytl was raised for the appeal. Headmaster Hasan Gurbetci said he was amazed and gratified by the generosity of the people attending the event. Queens hotel Owner David De la Mare said he was very pleased with the success of the event and he hopes to repeat it in the future, to both raise money for worthwhile causes, and to add to the community spirit between expats and local people in Dalyan.
BBS FINALLY SUCCEEDS Finally, BBS - (British Beer Suppliers) Company achieved it's goal of bringing the beer of John Smith to Dalyan. David Hanging ,who the owner of BBS Company, the distribütör of John Smith Beer , celebrated the opening of John Smiths Beer together with friends in Leon‘s Bar.The guests, who were completely enjoying this celebration, hoisted their glasses when they posed for our cameras. Especially David Hanging who was thoroughly enjoying this big achievement. The T-shirts of BBS Company were given as a gift to the guests. Terry was very generous to the guests with these gifts and all were pleased and had a good time with live music.
SPEED BOATS FORBIDDEN Tourists can have a holiday in peace of mind on the coasts which have the blue flag of Mugla. ‘This is very important for us’, explained Koçaklar. ‘When tourists went swimming during their holiday last year, there were many speedboats near the coast and these tourists became irritated. Because of this we took a lot of cautions. Thanks to these cautions there hasn’t been any speedboat or jet ski accident up to now. Race of the speedboats and jet ski cause danger for security of people on an open beach, in the safety zone of 200 meters distance from the coast or another beach. Before the next season, head officials of a district should take precautions about this subject.’
WHERE HAVE ALL THE TURKS GONE?
According to the remarks of Turkish tourists, they really don't realize how beautiful Dalyan is. The people of Dalyan say that Dalyan and its beauties have been advertised abroad for years. Tourists know better than them what Dalyan really has to offer. The Turkish tourists don't even know most of the beauties of the Dalyan area. Just on Caunos Construction's website can the Turkish tourists find anything about Dalyan when they want to make investigation on the internet. There is lots of information but they are written only in English or other languages. Many Turkish tourists who come to Dalyan complain about this point.

DID YOU REACH YOUR AIMS FOR THIS SEASON AS A MUNICIPALITY? HAVE THE EXPECTATIONS COME TRUE?
It wasnt so bad. The municipality reached its aims. The bazaar area and the waterside were included the recontructions plan. We plan that we make water and electricity systems equipped condition. We succeeded in lots of things we want. The recontructions plan was accepted. The area of 1/25.000 in contructions plan were accepted by city’s bank. The municipality has a big part to this event.
WHAT KIND OF ACTIVITIES ARE THERE IN DALYAN?
We are connecting with the professors in the universitys for an education seminar in the culture center. The Works will be made about music and film. These Works are about the old construction of Dalyan and the Fine Arts.
YOUR PARLIAMENTARIANS CANDIDATE ARE MENTIONED SO MUCH, IS THAT TRUE?

THE TRADITIONAL FOODS OF THE SKILLFUL HOUSEWIVES IN DALYAN
People of Dalyan have made foods for winter for years themselves. At present this tradition will not change and the housewives are still going to each other. Every year they meet in their homes and they prepare a lot of foods like tomato sauce and soups for the winter. Additionally, the housewives, while improving the friendship, find pleasure in this work. They think that this should be an example of cooperation to the young generation. Anyway, it is so…
