This symposium was conducted in Dalyan between the 25th and 27th of October. In this symposium there were 19 posters shown, 3 videos shown, 2 art exhibitions and 3 speakers.
The participations made these decision:
REHABILITATION CENTER SYMPOSIUM The first Rehabilitation Center Symposium, which was held in Dalyan’s Club Alaturka, has been concluded. At this symposium the decision was made to build a rehabilitation center in Dalyan, which is famous as the home of the Caretta Caretta Sea Turtle. Representatives of University and civilian society organisations joined in this symposium. The participations went to the Radar Station and Iztuzu Beach on the second day and explained their works at the beach on the third day. Participants from Italy, Greece, and Cyprus joined in the symposium and made plans for the future. The most important subject is the rehabilitations center at Dalyan’s Iztuzu Beach. There is a center in Napoli like the one proposed in Dalyan for the therapy of the Caretta Caretta where they will be left in their own habitats. Everyone is very pleased with this project.
REPUBLIC FESTIVAL On October 29th the Republic Festival was celebrated enthusiastically in Dalyan like in every part of Turkey. On this day Turkey celebrated their 84.year anniversary of the Foundation of the Turkish Republic. The mayor of the Dalyan Municipality, Suat Tufan, the Jandarma, the manageress of Is bank, Esra Erol, and the chief and students of the Anatolian and Tourism Highschool joined in this celebration at Republic Square in Dalyan. At first respectful position was held for a minute and afterwards the Turkish National Anthem was played. Mayor Suat Tufan spoke about the meaning of this day. Afterwards poems were read, a folkdance was performed by the students of the Anatolian and Tourism Highschool. The people enjoyed so much from this show. After the show, the team of folkdancers invited protocol and the spectators for the Anatolien Folkdance and then an official walk was made by the students and they were applauded by the large audience.
HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2007 Witches, wizards, broomsticks, goblins , cobwebs and tall hats, all were present on Halloween Night at the Dalyan Queens Hotel . David de la Mare and Drew Sutton, owners of the hotel, met their guests with their customary warm welcome and a glass each of delicious Halloween punch. I love parties, especiallly themed ones, and the sixty or more revellers who turned up proved that Dalyan has plenty of like minded folk. Imaginitive, wierd, even glamorous costumes made for a splendid evening and our hosts amazing transformation of the hotels cellar into a magical version of a witches den ensured that we all entered into the spirit of that particular night of wizardry. Halloween celebrations are now hugely popular in many regions of the world, but were not as abundant in Europe, except in Ireland until recently. The origins of Halloween go back into antiquity and are said to be based on a mixture of religion, Paganism and superstition. In more recent times I recall a huge amount of Halloween festivities in the USA in the fifites when I lived over there. Tricking or Treating from door to door, imaginitive costumes and parties were de rigeur and New York even hosted a 5th Avenue parade which attracted thousands of participants and spectators. Today it is estimated that two million people take part in this New York event. Entertainment was on hand at the Queens Hotel in the charming folk dance performance of two local boys, Efe and Ege ,sons of our friend Ozkan Atakan. The graceful Oriental dancing of Nasrah Nefer also got rave reviews. Sundry witches, wizards, goblins and devils joined in the latter end of the performance, albeit with less terpsichorean talents, but with impressive abandon. A delicious supper was served , chili con carne, jacket potatoes, salads and succulent sandwiches . Jan Holland had organised a raffle in aid of a tragic accident victim, Geza who worked at the Arikan Hotel until he was seriously injured whilst riding his motor cycle. Jan is a tireless helper of the needy and the proceeds of the raffle will go towards Geza’s hospital costs. Congratulations to David and Drew for this lovely evening which brought pleasure to many. They themselves are concerned benefactors who always include some sort of fund raising for Dalyan village causes at their events, the previouse event, the Art Exibition raised 1250 YTL for the school. Those who donated prizes for the raffle also deserve thanks. A list of some of these follows. Bye for now from Kartan June... another Party Animal.
RADICAL SPORTS FANATICS
There was an exciting Rugby match in a pub which is in the Dalyan Bazaar. There was no place to sit inside or even outside of the pub. The spectators screamed continuously because of the numerous goals in the match. The followers of the team were watching the match excitedly and all supporting their own team. The owners of the pub were happy to sell so much beer and when the Match was over, the streets were empty again.
101 PLACES TO VISIT
BOOK: 101 Places Which Should Be Seen In Turkey.
AUTHORS: Saffet Emre Tongut, Fatih Türkmenoglu
In the Book “101 Places Which Should Be Seen In Turkey, this area is mentioned as one which well worth visiting” Saffet Emre Tongut and Fatih Türkmenoglu mentioned Dalyan and Gökova and praised their value.
“The Rose of Gökova is Akyaka”: Sakar mountain stays on your back and the Gulf of Gökova is in front of you. Here is one of the most beautiful and quietest Gulfs in Turkey. There are only Pine Forests, the voice of the waves, and insects. If you were to dream of Paradise, then you will remember Akyaka.
In the Book they advised travelers that they should absolutely go on a boat trip. The Gulf of Gökova are wonderful, but one should then go to Dalyan and visit Kaunos and the surrounding area through a boat trip. First visit Kaunos, then go to Iztuzu Beach, which is the home of the Caretta Caretta Turtles. Then life will be seen as wonderful by you…
DALYAN POSTOFFICE
The Post Office and some of the restaurants and shops that were to be removed by the Municipality Assembly Decision dated 05.04.05 and the Center Park in Village was decided to built through the Public Improvements Plan.
In 2006 this area was showed as the Center Park in the Public Improvements Plan and for lack of any objection this plan was accepted.
After the changing of the plan, the PTT and our Municipality held a meeting. As a result of this meeting, the Exchange of the buildings housing the PTT and the Municipality was decided. The Municipality came to an agreement with PTT but Turk Telekom wanted 200,000 YTL for its moving expenses from the Municipality.
The Mayor of the Municipality, Suat Tufan, said “Our possibilities are obvious, we wanted to remove this unsuitable building. About this subject, we await for help especially from the Deputy of Mugla and then from everyone. It is true that this building is unsuitable for our beautiful Dalyan”
In other news, the decision about the street dogs has made people very happy.
The Dalyan Municipality made a decision about the street dogs at a meeting. They decided to make them grafted and sterilized and to stay in their habitat. The owner of dogs will make their dogs a record at the Dalyan Municipality. Everyone accepted their decision. Aysel Karaman, who is police superior, said that this decision would be useful for everyone.
The people who dont obey the rules, will be punished.
Tourists, who bring their dogs and then leave them will be punished too. The municipality team wanted from the people to pay more attention to this subject. In addition, the dogs will be found more easily with the numbers of their ears.
