Turkish Jewelry Exports Increase
Turkey is quickly becoming the EU's Rising Star in Jewelry based on the data from the last 26 years. A governmental agency has concluded that the jewelry sector is Turkey’s most productive industry based on capital efficiency. The Valuable Metal and Jewelry Exporters Union Board of Directors President Cihan Kamer has said that the Turkish jewelry sector which exported $930 million last year, has exceeded $1 billion in exports at the end of June this year.
Kamer who responded to questions about the sector, said the exports which were worth $420 million in the first six months of last year rose to $487 million, an increase of 16 percent, during the same period of this year.
An increase of about 22 percent occurred for jewelry made of gold which makes up 93 percent of the sectors total exports, Kamer added. ''We should also mention an increase of about 7 percent in the price of gold which directly affects this increase.''
Turkey has long been noted for the quality of it's jewelry and the talent of Turkish artisans who can emulate any design with 18 - 24 karat gold at a great savings over many western jewelry designers and retailers.
