Carat Weight
The Weight or size of the diamond is measured in carats(ct). A carat is 200 milligram. In Jewel Sector, the diamonds that are sold most are under 1 carat. That is specified by points. 1 carat is determined as 100 points. Half carat is 50 points and it written as 0.50 ct. Below sizes and carats are shown.
Don't confuse the weight of a stone and its size. The carat amounts of other gemstones and diamonds are different Because different minerals have different densities. In addition to this, the prices of two diamonds that have same carat weight, will be different from each other according to their clearness, color, and cutting.
You should not mix the weight and the size of the diamond. The carat amounts of other gemstones and diamonds are different as different minerals have different densities. In addition to this, the prices of two diamonds that have same carat weight, will be different from each other according to their clearness, color, and cutting.
Don't make the mistake of shopping "for the biggest diamond at the best possible price." The value of a diamond is not determined by the size but by the 4C property that we are going to detailly determine below. As much as you know the 4c property you will identify the diamond you buy that much.
When you buy diamond, You should certainly leave the idea that the biggest diamond is the best diamond. The value of a diamond is not determined by the size but by the 4C property that we are going to detailly determine below. As much as you know the 4c property you will identify the diamond you buy that much.
Color
Color property is measured by the yellowness of the diamond. The most valuable diamond is the colorless one and it is very expensive. These diamonds are found rare. As though the table of G.I.A (The Gemological Institude of America), in alphabetical order the letters from D to W determine the colour rate of the diamond.
For a diamond to be considered "colorless," the G.I.A. requires that it be a D, E, or F. But mostly, diamonds are between H and L. The diamonds between M and Z have visible yellow color quality. To understand the color of the diamond you will buy, take an output from the colormeter. Then compare with other diamonds and finally be sure that the certificate of that diamond is correct.

Clarity
The clarity of a diamond is determined by looking at the inclusions and external blemishes denominated as "the finger prints of nature". Most diamonds have traces that are consisted of carbon crystal. As the carbon crystals reduce, the clarity of the diamonds increases, thus the prices of the diamonds rise. In the following table, from right to left the clarity of the diamond increases.
On the most left side there exist FL which means that the diamond is entirely clear. This diamond is found rare in nature. The flaws on the surface of the stone can only be seen under advanced magnifications. As you can see in the table, flaws are increasing when we go from FL to P1, P2, P3.
4C has an important role on pricing the diamonds. In addition to the cuttings and the colours of the diamond, the clarity of the diamond also affects the price of the diamond as can be seen at the table. There is not much difference between VVS1-VVS2 and VS1-VS2 that can be seen with naked eye. This difference can only be seen with the 10X magnification, so that there is no need for you to pay a high price diffrerence between these two diamonds. If you want an Emerald Cut or a Baguette Cut diamond, it would be better for the clarity level fort he diamond to be upper SI1. Because the inclusions and external blemishes in the Baguette Cut are more obvious than other cut styles.
Cut
Cut is the most important property of the 4Cs. The brightness and the twinkle of the diamond depends on the quality of the cut. Other 4C properties depend on nature but cut property can be made by human. Lets look at the properties of cut:
Diamond Cut:
There are two main cut shapes: Baguette and Emerald Cut. Baguette Cut is composed of parallel facets in the direction of the Width and the height of the gemstone. If the edges of the gemstone would be cutted with round facets Baguette Cut will turn into Emerald Cut. Brilliant Cut is composed of round cut triangle facets. Modern and popular Brilliant Cut is composed of 58 traingle facets (33 of them are above the gemstone and 25 of them are below the gemstone).
If you want to own a very shining and glittering diamond, choose Brilliant Round Cut. If you want to own a plain and smart diamond, choose Baguette Cut.
Shape depends on the pleasure of the person who forms it. Among all cut styles the most popular one is Round Cut. Below you can see other cut shapes. Unless you're purchasing a diamond as an investment (in which case you should strongly consider a round brilliant), you should choose the shape which pleases you most. Saul Spero, a New York diamond appraiser, spent 25 years interviewing over 50,000 people to determine if there was any correlation between personality and preference of diamond shapes. He states that if a woman has a strong preference for any of these shapes, she can be characterized as follows:
Shape Character
Round Family-centered, dependable, unaggressive.
Oval Individualistic, creative, well-organized, willing to take chances.
Marquise Extroverted, aggressive, innovative, career-centered.
Pear Conforming, considerate, adaptable
Emerald/Princess Disciplined, conservative, efficient, honest.
Heart Sentimental, feminine, sensitive, trusting.
Once and for All:
We talked shortly about the 4Cs that you should consider when you buy diamond. As we said earlier Cut is the most important but is the least realized property of the 4Cs. Inexact or faulty cut diamond is short-lived and worthless .
If you want the shiniest diamond possible, select a brilliant cut.Because of the symmetries of the brilliant round cut it is the most shiny diamond.
